Modern Slavery Statement 2025

United Nationals Countryless Children (UNCC)

Introduction

United Nationals Countryless Children (UNCC) is committed to preventing modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and exploitation in all aspects of its operations and supply chains. UNCC adopts a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and is dedicated to conducting all activities ethically, transparently, and with integrity.

This statement outlines the actions UNCC takes to identify, assess, and reduce risks of modern slavery across its humanitarian programs and organisational operations, in line with the principles of the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018, international human rights standards, and ethical charity governance practices.

Our commitment forms part of UNCC’s broader mission to promote dignity, justice, safeguarding, and responsible humanitarian action.

Supply Chain Risk Management

UNCC recognises that modern slavery risks may exist within global supply chains. To reduce these risks, UNCC:

  • Applies a risk-based assessment when engaging suppliers and partners

  • Prioritises due diligence for key suppliers and contractors

  • Seeks suppliers who operate ethically and comply with applicable labour laws

  • Includes ethical conduct expectations within agreements where practicable

  • Avoids partnerships with organisations suspected of exploitation or forced labour

Where credible concerns arise, UNCC reserves the right to suspend or terminate supplier relationships.

Governance & Policies

UNCC maintains governance and safeguarding frameworks designed to promote ethical conduct and prevent exploitation, including:

  • Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy

  • Code of Conduct

  • Complaints and Whistleblower Policy

  • Ethical Procurement Practices

  • Volunteer and Staff Conduct Guidelines

These policies support responsible decision-making, accountability, and compliance across all operational locations.

Supplier & Partner Expectations

UNCC expects all suppliers, contractors, volunteers, and partners to:

  • Comply with applicable labour and human rights laws

  • Prohibit forced labour, child labour, and human trafficking

  • Provide safe and fair working conditions

  • Operate transparently and ethically

UNCC will not knowingly engage with any entity involved in modern slavery or exploitation.

Due Diligence & Program Integrity

UNCC undertakes verification and monitoring processes to ensure humanitarian resources and donations are used responsibly. This includes:

  • Partner and beneficiary verification processes

  • Ethical screening of organisational partnerships

  • Monitoring of program delivery and community engagement

  • Financial accountability and oversight measures

These processes help ensure aid reaches intended beneficiaries safely and ethically.

Communication, Training & Reporting

UNCC promotes awareness of modern slavery risks among staff, volunteers, and partners through:

  • Orientation and policy awareness training

  • Safeguarding and ethical conduct education

  • Clear reporting pathways for concerns or misconduct

  • Confidential whistleblowing mechanisms

All personnel are encouraged to report concerns without fear of retaliation.

Monitoring & Review

UNCC reviews this Modern Slavery Statement annually to strengthen prevention measures and reflect legislative or operational changes.

The Board and organisational leadership assess the effectiveness of policies, risk management practices, and training outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.

This statement constitutes UNCC’s Modern Slavery Statement for the financial year ending 2025.
