UNCC Health & WASH Sector – Kenya & Uganda Programs

The Health and WASH sector of UNCC, supported by our Australian head office, is committed to strengthening health systems and improving access to essential health and hygiene services in underserved communities across Kenya and Uganda.

Our focus includes capacity building for health personnel, improving leadership and governance, and enhancing the delivery of pharmaceutical services, health information systems, and direct health services. These efforts align with our strategy to support state and county-level health departments to efficiently manage and deliver essential healthcare.

Strategic Impact Areas

UNCC’s health programs prioritize the 7 high-impact areas:

  • Immunization

  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

  • Nutrition

  • HIV/AIDS prevention and care

  • Malaria prevention

  • Safe motherhood

  • Family planning and reproductive health

Health System Strengthening

Our work is grounded in the six health system building blocks:

  1. Leadership & Governance

  2. Human Resources for Health

  3. Pharmaceutical Services

  4. Health Financing

  5. Health Management Information Systems (HMIS)

  6. Service Delivery

Additionally, UNCC supports the Boma Health Initiative, enabling grassroots-level healthcare delivery through trained community health workers.

Our Approach

UNCC delivers health and WASH services by:

  • Working through existing health facilities and infrastructure

  • Conducting mobile outreach to remote communities

  • Enhancing community-level nutrition services

  • Expanding WASH infrastructure and hygiene education

Our Goal

To ensure communities in Kenya and Uganda are healthy, resilient, and economically productive—with equitable access to quality health and WASH services, regardless of location or background.
