Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment

When people have opportunities to earn a living, they can provide for their families, educate their children, and build a better future. At UNCC, we believe that sustainable livelihoods are essential for reducing poverty, restoring dignity, and strengthening resilient communities.

That is why we work with refugees, vulnerable families, women, older persons, youth, persons with disabilities, and host communities to create opportunities that improve income, food security, and long-term self-reliance.

Our livelihood programs are developed in partnership with communities, local leaders, government agencies, and humanitarian partners to support sustainable economic growth and community resilience.

UNCC works to improve household income and economic opportunities by helping individuals and families develop practical skills, access markets, and build sustainable livelihoods.

Examples of UNCC livelihood activities include:

Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production

UNCC supports farmers and households through training on improved farming practices, climate-smart agriculture, effective planting and harvesting techniques, and sustainable food production.

Livestock and Animal Rearing

Communities receive training and support in livestock management, poultry keeping, and animal rearing to diversify household income and improve nutrition.

Small Business Development

UNCC helps individuals and groups establish and grow small businesses that generate income and strengthen local economies.

Economic Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities

We promote inclusive livelihood opportunities by supporting persons with disabilities to develop skills, participate in income-generating activities, and achieve economic independence.

Women's Economic Empowerment

UNCC supports women's groups, savings groups, and self-help initiatives that strengthen financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and family wellbeing.

Village Savings and Community Groups

We encourage community savings groups and local financial initiatives that enable families to save, access small loans, and invest in productive activities.

Climate-Resilient Agriculture

UNCC promotes improved seed varieties, climate-resilient crops, and sustainable farming methods that help communities adapt to changing environmental conditions.

Market Access and Value Chains

We support farmers and producers to connect with markets, improve product quality, and increase income opportunities.

Nutrition and Food Security

Livelihood activities contribute to improved household nutrition by increasing access to diverse and nutritious foods, reducing hunger, and improving family wellbeing.

Through livelihood development, skills training, and economic empowerment, UNCC helps individuals and communities move from dependency to self-reliance, creating opportunities that build resilience, improve food security, and keep children in school.

Our vision is to create communities where every person has the opportunity to earn a living, provide for their family, and live with dignity.
