UNCC’s commitment to aged care for refugees began with our very first client, Mama Ide, who is currently receiving medical treatment at Family Clinic Hospital. Her situation highlighted the urgent and unmet needs of elderly refugees and nationals in Uganda—especially those who lack assistance with self-care, mobility, and basic domestic activities.
In response, UNCC is calling on UNHCR and other partners to support the establishment of the first-ever Senior Care Services Centre in Terrego District, Uganda. This center will provide specialized, community-based care for elderly refugees and vulnerable local seniors, offering:
Physiotherapy and medical care
Support with hygiene and daily living tasks
Nutrition and emotional wellness programs
Dignified, age-sensitive spaces for rest and rehabilitation
There is currently no dedicated aged care facility for refugees in Uganda. Establishing this center will fill a critical gap and serve as a model of compassion-driven, inclusive care.
We invite UNHCR, NGOs, health providers, and donors to join us in making this vision a reality. Together, we can ensure that no elder—refugee or national—is left behind.
